So, today's the day, and I'm getting my first COVID-19 shot in the arm. We'll see if this is my last blog post, but I doubt it, since I've already had several vaccinations and tolerated them all well so far. I'm sure there are some people here thinking, "Why is he getting vaccinated?" or "Another vaccinated sheep," and so on and so forth, but I couldn't care less...
Vaccination to bring about normality – it won't be that easy...
I expect to receive my second vaccination in June, and if anyone thinks that being vaccinated means I can now forgo masks and restrictions, well, they probably still believe in unicorns. Just because I'm vaccinated doesn't mean the pandemic and COVID-19 are suddenly over; no, this issue will continue to affect us throughout 2021, even those who are vaccinated...
The reason I'm getting vaccinated is actually quite simple. I'm not exactly lightweight, which statistically puts me at higher risk than a marathon runner. On top of that, my job brings me into contact with a lot of people, and not just at the supermarket checkout. As a DJ, I'm exposed to intoxicated people who, as we all know, don't always follow the rules, so the risk of infection is higher in my line of work.
Furthermore, it's crucial for me to be able to cross national borders without a two-week quarantine, as I also travel abroad as a DJ, and with the current quarantine regulations, it wouldn't be feasible for me to regularly return to the turntables. Even if restaurants and hotels reopen, that doesn't mean I wouldn't have to quarantine if I were to play a DJ gig in Austria, for example, and as a vaccinated DJ, I have more freedom in planning my DJ gigs.
Furthermore, I believe it is my civic duty (not to politicians) to contribute to containing this pandemic. Because, in my opinion, this is also a small contribution to a social and democratic community – giving something back without much effort and without endangering human lives.
And this is irrefutable proof that we live in a democracy and not a dictatorship, because it remains everyone's choice whether or not to get vaccinated. Those who choose not to get vaccinated, for whatever reason, are no better than an influencer frying pan who flies to Dubai... But everyone has to decide for themselves, and this will reveal each individual's social competence.
So, now let's see if I can finally receive Sky for free, or if I have better 5G reception thanks to my vaccination, and if I can also tell you about my second vaccination. In that spirit, stay healthy and we hope things will soon return to some semblance of normality...
